CITY of OROVILLE ANNOUNCES BUILDING PERMIT AMNESTY PROGRAM

OROVILLE, CA – May 2, 2012- The Oroville City Council has approved a Residential Building Permit Amnesty Program that will be in effect from May 1, 2012 through June 29, 2012. The program provides a no-penalty option and assists property owners legalize construction work that may have been done to their property without a required building permit.

The City’s Code Enforcement Department routinely checks for unpermitted work and the penalty fee doubles the normal permit fee. During the amnesty program the homeowner will only be responsible for the normal fee. The Amnesty Program will also waive any previously assessed code enforcement fines if applicable.

Virtually any improvement to property may require a permit. The California Building Code specifies what is exempt from a building permit; however City staff can best assist you in determining if a completed improvement, or one in progress, requires a permit or not.
