Introduction
     
On February 11, 1957, the Federal Power Commission, predecessor to the Federal
Energy Regulatory Commission, issued a 50-year license, effective February 1,
1957, to DWR to construct and operate the Oroville Facilities (FERC Project No. 2100)
in Butte County, California.
     
Constructed at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Northern California,
the Oroville Facilities, are located on the Feather River in Butte County.
The Oroville Facilities include boundaries that extend from south of the City
of Oroville to reaches of the South Fork, Middle Fork, North Fork and the West
Branch of the North Fork of the Feather River.

Some Background
     
The State Water Contractors are comprised of 27 public water agencies located throughout
the State of California. The agencies collectively provide water to 23 million residents and 750,000 acres
of prime farmland, and have a contract with the Department of Water Resources for 99% of the water exported
by the State Water Project.
