25B-13 Required in subdivisions; exception.

Utility lines including but not limited to electric, telephone, communications, street lighting and cable television to be installed within each subdivision or directly serving the subdivision shall be placed underground, except that the planning commission may approve overhead utility extensions for lots greater than one acre in size if overhead service is consistent with existing and/or planned improvements in the surrounding area. The subdivider is responsible for complying with the requirements of this section, and shall make necessary arrangements with the utility companies for the installation of such facilities. For the purpose of this section, appurtenances and associated equipment such as, but not limited to, surface-mounted transformers, pedestal-mounted terminal boxes and meter cabinets, and concealed ducts in an underground system may be placed above ground. This section shall not apply to utility lines which do not provide service to the area subdivided. (Ord. No. 1090, § 1: Ord. No. 1665, § 4.)
